Street Combat Survival

Many Military Soldiers and Law Enforcement officers do not participate in realistic combat and/or survival training. There are many officers who do not want to participate in reality based training for fear of having to lay their training skills on the line in front of their peers, fear of being hurt, and a general fear of having to function outside of their comfort zones. Yes, these factors do exist in this valuable, realistic training---but they also exist in a real life confrontation. Let’s say there is a group of fire fighters who have been going to dangerous fires and responding inappropriately. We discover by looking at their training records that they have never practiced in a real, “flame house” training environment. Firefighters who have never been in a real burning building! Whose fault is it that these individuals are performing poorly? Clearly, the culpability would lie with the trainers and the administrators who had not given them that important, state-of-the-art training resource. Likewise, if there are officers and soldiers confronting life and death situations and responding inappropriately, whose fault is that? Whose Fault is it when there are readily available state-of-the-art resources that prepare and inoculate these agents for deadly force encounters, but the resources have not been provided? The politically correct answer would be to blame Administration, But those of us who take ownership of our life and want to control our future will take responsibility for ourselves. Commando Krav Maga (CKM) Instructed by S. Wright & Associate Technologies across New Mexico is exactly such a resource. Our training is to the police officer and the soldier what a flame house is to the firefighter.

Why Train to defend yourselves and your families

I had a very interesting conversation with a friend a few days ago pertaining to what this business (combat Survival) is about. We (self-defense Instructors) were basically accused of promoting hatred and instructing students to use violence for recreation or as a lifestyle. I was asked how as a Christian I could be involved with such a system.

This person (like many others) has a totally wrong understanding of what and why we train. I asked if this person if they had ever attended a class and of course the answer was no.
If you run into the kind of people I do, you may have found it hard to explain how you can work and pray for peace, and still be consistently prepared for war.

In a phrase “we fight so that we can live, not live so that we can fight”

Growing up in the West I was lucky enough to be mentored by a family with the mindset of the old West. We were taught to do what is right, stand up for people that need help and always protect what was entrusted to us. I often meet people who say that under no circumstance would they injure an animal or anyone else. That is their choice, (The choice to be a victim or to turn the fight back on the attacker and win).

Assume you are a Rancher and your livestock, is being attacked by a Lion. Would you just set in the ranch house and say it is Karma, and God’s will that the lion eat your way of living or would you get your rifle and go kill the Lion?
If you’re a Farmer whose field has no rain, yet a mile away was a full pond, would you haul water in a truck to feed the field, or let it die and say it is God’s will?

Like me, I am sure many of you have heard crap like “if I get assaulted, stabbed or shot it must be God’s will”. It is as if some people believe that they have no part in their own existence, I think they believe, lightning bolts are going to come from heaven and save them.
If you do not know how to swim and you decide to throw caution in the wind and jump in a lake you will most likely die, that was not Gods’ will, you were just stupid.
Commando Krav Maga lessons should be likened to swimming lessons for the pool of violence. We teach you to survive if you are ever thrown in. We acknowledge that Violence does happen to good people, and those prepared have a superior advantage to those that have never trained. We train you to survive and come home to those that you love and cherish.

When you are hard on yourself the world is easy, to the men and women who are easy on themselves the world is hard.

Till next time,

Shon

Daddies Little Girl

A couple weeks ago I was visiting with a good friend and his family who live down South, he told me a couple exciting things related to their experience training in Commando Krav Maga. Several months ago, he happened to bring his teenage daughter to one of the full day CKM classes. Because my friend and his family live several hundred miles away, they have been practicing on their own. He told me they both were excited about what they learned here in Albuquerque and practice every now and then.

He was excited about the way his daughter had grown over the last few months. He explained that her attitude, school work and the way she carried herself were all positively affected.

She is about a 100 lbs. She had been telling her boy friend (who is about 220 lbs) that she had learned to defend herself from larger attackers in a weekend seminar, and her and her dad practice it still. She had even told him she could take him down and choke him out. I got the impression that he was really not impressed with her talking. He was in total denial. He told her, no way she could get him down and hurt him. It took some persuasion on her part to get him to try.

She convinced him to attack her, at which point she threw him down so hard that some people at school thought it was a real fight. The young (x-boy friend) man was stunned from the throw, then to add embarrassment to the situation further she continued choking him, forcing him to give up. She said, he gave up and then they had to explain to the teachers it was just self-defense practice and that they were not fighting.

Having a daughter just a few years younger than her, I enjoyed what I was hearing. What dad does not want his daughter to be able to defend herself? This is exactly the confidence and attitude we want every person who trains with us to develop. We have genuine concern for ladies and children as they are way more likely to be singled out by violent people. We encourage everyone to train, maybe this story will encourage some of you parents to get involved with your teenagers. Train your entire family, increase your fitness and develop confidence while training to win violent street and combat attacks.
